Twilight Detective Agency #1

Twilight Detective Agency is a fun supernatural comic about two Gargoyle brothers who run a
discreet detective agency. The words are done by Michael McAdam and the art is done by
Jeremy Thew. The first issue is fast paced and fun. There isn’t much mystery in the first issue
as it more just sets up the characters and the world. However there is plenty of action and
interesting characters. The banter between the two gargoyle brothers is quite entertaining and I definitely enjoyed the issue as the dynamics for future plot threads were established nicely.

The first issue introduces us to the gargoyle brothers, Riverdale and Hawkstone. Both brothers
are fairly distinctive with their personalities. The dynamics between them have a real buddy
comedy feel which I thoroughly enjoyed. In the first issue they are in search of a mystical stolen
book called The Libram Osseous(The Book of Bones). During their search for the stolen book
they come across Mages and other gargoyles and we learn a little about the world the two
brothers inhabit.

The story is light and humor is definitely plentiful throughout the fast paced story. The brothers
are likable and the supporting characters seem intriguing. There is a definitely a lot of potential
as the series progresses. There is nothing heavy or overly dark in this tale. It is your basic
buddy action/detective story with a magical supernatural twist. Everything is kept light and fun which I personally found very refreshing.

The artwork was good with nothing flashy but it served the story very well and was dynamic.
The dialogue flowed naturally and the overall pacing of the story was decent. You were able to
follow what was going on easily and their was a good deal of fight scenes interspersed with the back story and banter to balance everything out. My only real complaint is that the brothers don’t really get to show their stuff too much. I would really like to see more of them using their detective prowess and obvious powers. They easily overcome their adversaries throughout this story so I would love to see them get the chance to flex their obvious muscles. But I am assuming I will just have to buy the next issue to see more of them in action to fill my appetite.

Overall it was a good solid first issue and I would recommend Twilight Detective Agency to any
fans of supernatural beings and/or magic as well as those who like buddy action stories. I
would definitely be interested in following Riverdale and Hawkstone along on more adventures.
They seem like a very entertaining duo.

Final Score: 5/5
